Boys Hoops, Back on Track
With the regular season coming to an end, the Cadets find themselves in 5th place with a record of (3-7) 6-11. After an exciting hot start to the season, they have found themselves in a number of close games, with 6 of their 11 losses being decided by single digits. While their district playoff seed isn’t what they had hoped, the team is optimistic about their ability to make some noise in the Big 9 Playoffs.
Davis vs. IKE
The prized cross-town rivalry once again didn’t disappoint. With both games being packed with fans of both sides, there was no lack of excitement. While the Pirates did capture both wins, they were far from lopsided. At IKE, the game was decided by just 5 points, and at Davis by 13. While it’s no excuse for the loss, the Cadets' leading scorer, Lucas Stevens’ performance was hindered by an ankle injury suffered in Friday night's overtime win at Eastmont.
League Wins
Speaking of an overtime win at Eastmont, the dub was much more important than it seemed; not only was it the Cadets' long-awaited second league win, and it gave them life as they swapped places with Eastmont to move to 5th in the Big 9. Besides adding a win to the column, it, more importantly, gave the Cadets an identity moving forward as they found a way to get it done despite less-than-perfect circumstances. Freshman Jacob Gonzalez (17 pts) and Senior Juelz Terry (21 pts) were crucial in closing out the game as Terry hit the game-tying bucket to push the game to OT, and Gonzalez hit the go-ahead 3 to secure the win in overtime. Junior guard Lucas Stevens added 19 pts before exiting the game due to an ankle injury. Their first league win, at Wenatchee, also required an extra period (overtime) with Stevens hitting the game-tying three en route to a 30-point outing to keep the Cadets alive.
Moving Forward
The Cadets have two league games left and will most likely travel to Sunnyside for their first district playoff game.
