Action Packed Weekend for Girls Basketball
Girls' Season So Far: After finishing 4-15 last season, the girls came into this season with a winning mentality, and that's exactly how it’s looked so far. They are 10-6 on the season and are looking to play in the district championship for the BIG 9 League.
OT Win vs. Eastmont: The girls went into this game with a (7-5) record and were looking to pick up another league win. The Cadets erased a 6 point fourth quarter deficit to go to overtime and ended up winning in overtime 70-71. Mercedez Garza hit Ruby O’Connor for the winning layup. In this game, Nehka Roehl erupted for 24 points over the Wildcats. Mercedez Garza had 12 points and Ariana Ramos chipped in 15 points and hit the game-tying free throw to send the game to overtime. Other players who chipped in, (Ruby O’connor-6), (Natalia Frederick-8),(Ceballos-4),(Melia Contreras-2). The girls improved their record to (8-5)
Battle against Davis Pirates: With the Cadets off a big win against Eastmont, they go on the road again and go 10 minutes North to face Davis. Davis is currently the #1 team in 4A Girls Basketball, but the cadets went into this game with only a win in their minds. Ike put up a fight that no other league opponent has done against Davis in the last 19 games, and no other BIG 9 had been within 25 points of the defending champs. Nehka Roehl attacked the Davis Pirates with no fear and scored 23 points. Nekha Roehl attacked ferociously, opening the inside and letting Mercedez Garza work in the paint. Mercedez Garza ended the game with an efficient 18 points. Ultimately, the team fought hard but lost a tough one, 66-55. Other players that chipped in were, (Natalia Frederick-3), (Ariana Ramos-1), (Melia Contreras-7), and (Rihanna Espinoza-2).
