Back When I was in High School…
1. What is one thing you would tell your senior year self?
"You can plan a pretty picnic, but you can't predict the weather." I heard this lyric in an Outkast song a couple years after high school graduation. I wish I had known it in high school.
2. What is one thing you regret from senior year?
Listening to what other people thought about me. How many lemons does one have to eat to be such a sour human? Just let them eat their lemons.
3. When it comes to choosing a college what is one piece of advice you would give seniors?
Regardless if you want to go to college or not, get passionate about something, have a dream and follow it. Figure out what it takes to get there. Is it college? Is it a trade? You don't need to go to college to be successful in life. You do need to have a dream and pursue it to be excited about life....and it is okay if the dream changes, heck...I wanted to be an astronaut. If you want to go to college, do whatever it takes to get your feet on the campus you are most interested in. College choice is more about where you can see yourself attending, and where you feel like you "fit", and not ever about the ability to brag. Yeah, it's cool to say that you attended UW, but where do you fit? Go to THAT college.
4. Do you have any advice when it comes to dating in high school?
Yes...don't. Ha-ha...I'm being hypocritical when I say that, but honestly you grow and change so much after high school that sometimes a relationship makes that more difficult. I had a boyfriend from the middle of my sophomore year in high school until the end of my first quarter in college. We both admitted that it started to feel like we were one way at school (we went to different colleges) and another way when we were in person. Use high school as a time to grow up, socially. I guess if you ARE going to date in high school, make sure to respect the person you are dating, even when the relationship is over.
1. What is one thing you would tell your senior year self?
It's all going to work out. Just keep working. Dunk more often. You won't be able to do it much longer.
2. What is one thing you regret from senior year?
I regret not staying as involved and engaged at the end of senior year. Although I felt ready to leave, I could have done more with those last few months. I missed out on some good times.
3. When it comes to choosing a college what is one piece of advice you would give seniors?
Choosing a college is about you and no one else. Visit campuses and go where you feel like you will be successful.
4. Do you have any advice when it comes to dating in high school?
Dating in high school is like practice for real life. Be kind and respectful. If it doesn't work out, don’t make it weird
1. What is one thing you would tell your senior year self?
I would tell myself that once you are out of high school, nobody cares if you are "cool." Once you graduate, you probably won't see most of your classmates ever again.
2. What is one thing you regret from senior year?
I regret wasting time hating high school because I just wanted to be in college (I was dating a guy in college at the time), and not spending more time with my high school friends while I still had time.
3. When it comes to choosing a college what is one piece of advice you would give seniors? All colleges are amazing, large or small, rural or urban. But obviously if you want to go to the BEST college, there is only one choice: the University of Washington!
4. Do you have any advice when it comes to dating in high school?
DO NOT have your significant other's name tattooed on yourself, or mention being together forever in your senior quote; these are the fastest way to make sure you break up within two weeks.
