Former NFL Player Steve Largent in Yakima

Former NFL player Steve Largent has released the news of his retirement. Steve Largent, previously a wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks, was considered the third-best during his rookie season and became the Seahawks' all-time best receiver.

On, September 18th, at the Town Hall speaking engagement at The Capital Theater, Mr. Largent spoke of his “message of hope and encouragement.” Largent was asked a few questions before his speech, questions about the NFL and his personal life.

What can you say to the inspiring football players who hope to make it to the NFL? “There is a 2% chance out of 100 players that can even get into the NFL so have a fallback, focus on your education both high school and college.”

Is football a safe place? “The league has gone a long way to make it safer, but I think football is not a safe place.”

Everyone wanted to be you but who did you want to be? “I was so busy being myself I didn’t really want to be anyone in the NFL other than to be great myself.” He answered.

When it came around to 11:00 and his speech started, he stated how it hurt him when the Oilers traded him stating he wasn't good enough to play for them, but a buddy of his talked to the Seahawks and he began to train for them. When he first started playing for them he was rusty and didn’t play his best but when his buddy told him to play just as he did in high school and college, he did better. Largent is now in the hall of fame and has an award named after him for players who are great humanitarians.
