The Five Worst Pokémon Starters
When you hear Pokémon you usually think of Pikachu or Eevee, but that is not what I am going to be talking about. What I am going to be focusing on is the starters throughout the Pokémon games, generations one through nine. To see what is the worst, I am not going to list any spin off games that give you a random Pokémon as a starter like Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee and Yellow. Also NO regional variants like the Pokémon from legends Arceus. The Pokémon will be ranked by each factor. That includes the design and being compared to the other Pokémon in their region, but not their competitive stats, their shiny forms, mega evolutions or Dynamax. So with that being said let's start with the 10 worst Pokémon Starters.
For the number 5 spot for the worst Pokémon starter has to go to Charmander. Don’t get me wrong, Charmander is a decent looking Pokémon but there are some factors that would bring this Pokémon as one of the worst on this list. First, Charmander is overrated. Although that might not be something that would make them one of the worst, when it comes to starter Pokémon this plays a huge role since the options are so limited. Second is that the final evolution Charizard is a Fire Flying Pokémon. This bugs me since that Charizard literally looks like a dragon. So it should make sense that Charizard would be a Fire Dragon and not Fire Flying. Finally, the Pokémon is overused. Overrated and overused aren’t the same thing but are some reasons why it makes this Pokémon bad. In almost every Pokémon game Charmander’s final evolution Charizard has to be involved whether it has a new mechanic or needs to be in the final champions team that makes this Pokémon on this list.
Number 4 goes to Frookie for similar reasons like Charmander. Frookie’s final evolution Greninja is overrated and overused in the anime but unlike Charmander it is not as overused.
These two Pokémon can be interchangeable but not for number 3. That spot goes to Treeko. Don’t get me wrong I like Treecko, but there is one reason as to why this Pokémon is worse compared to Charmander and Frookie and it is that their final evolution is really disappointing. The second evolution of Grovyle looks cool. It looks like a ninja bird lizard hybrid so you think how awesome would the final evolution be, right? Well the final evolution Sceptile looks goofy and all the coolness that Grovyle had was taken away. Sceptile looks like a messed up Christmas tree and that is why Treecko is number 3 on this list.
For the number 2 spot. It will go to Sobble. Sobble is one of my favorite water starters but compared to the other Pokémon on this list this Pokémon doesn't make sense. The evolution line is wonky and the Pokémon looks ugly. Drizzile looks like that one emo kid that you see in middle school. Yes Drizzlie looks like that I am not lying, look it up, I think I’ve seen him here at IKE. Also Inteleon looks goofy. Like he is trying to look both intimidating and silly and the execution looks awful.
Now for the moment you’ve been waiting for. For the number one spot for the worst Pokémon Starter is Quaxly. This Pokémon takes most attributes from the others on the list. That Quaxly’s final evolution Quaquaval is over rated and ugly. Quaxly had a terrible evolution line to begin with it’s second evolution Quaxwell. As well it being missed potential.
This list is harder than it seems. It’s hard to find a definitive list that everyone agrees with. One of my favorites is on that list as well, But I am not telling who though. I hope you would agree with me on this list.
