Pizza Tower??? The Game You Should Playoli
There are going to be spoilers, of course, so read with caution. Pizza Tower is a new indie game with a 10/10 rating on Steam. Pizza Tower is a 2D platformer developed by Tour De Pizza where you play as a depressed Italian in his pizza shop with debt, Peppino, where you try to stop a floating pizza with a mustache from vaporizing your pizza shop. Unlike traditional 2D platforms, which mostly go from point A to point B and have game-overs like Super Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog. Pizza
Tower is more inspired by the Wario Land games. Mainly Wario Land 4, where you can get somewhat of a power-up within your environment. Exploration and brute force are how you beat the game, but with a twist. The twist is where at the end of the level, there is this pillar named John Pillar, and you destroy John Pillar where there is a timer for you to go back to the beginning of the level, which changes the game pace. Kind of like a superior successor. Taking elements from the original and making them better. So this brings the Question? Is Pizza Tower worth your time? And the answer to that is it is accessible to everyone. Like if you are more into the fast-paced game where you want to go super fast and want to speedrun the game, or if you are the type of gamer where there are precise controls and are looking for a challenging game to play, then this is the type of game for you.The music for this game is also really wacky, to say the least. Mostly due to Pizza Tower being inspired by Wario Land 4.
Now let’s take a more in-depth look at Pizza Tower to see what it is about. As I said earlier, Pizza is a game where you play as Peppino. An Italian with a failing pizza business where a flying pizza with a mustache comes out of nowhere and wants to destroy your pizza shop for no reason. With that being said, you go on to the tutorial. Like Wario Land, your power-ups are the environment. You can ride on rockets, play mini golf or even become a pizza box. And don’t get me started on the level design. It probably has some of the best levels the world has ever seen. Usually, in 2D platformers, the levels are usually plain. Like there’s happy grassland to the Sahara desert to ice land and so on and so forth. As well as just going left to right, but Pizza Tower is different. The levels are usually pizza themed and they have some fun references. For example, Pizza Scape. Pizza Scape is a castle-themed level but it is a reference to RuneScape. One of my favorite levels from Pizza Tower is DON’T MAKE A SOUND. The level reference Five Nights at Freddy’s. Where there is bootleg animatronics and it is in a pizza play place like FNAF. They even have jumpscares. The scariest of which is Oktoberfest. Trust me, when I first saw Oktoberfest jumpscare in Pizza Tower, I got so scared that I screamed like a little girl and made some beans in my pants as well as the fact that the levels have maze-like segments that feel like minigames. Like playing flappy bird, but you are a pizza box or playing golf, and if you don’t like it, you can always rush it. And the way Pizza Tower handles their bosses is meh. I’ve been talking about the positives but if there is one negative thing about this game, it’s probably the bosses. All it is is just to beat that guy before he beats you, the type of boss, and it doesn’t really match with the style of the game but that is just one thing. So going back to the positives is now the music. The music feels like it is from a really unhinged cartoon. And the amount of dopamine that comes out of you with the intense music mixed with the complex level design is basically a chef’s kiss. You should really totally play this game.
