One More Race

Even though Eisenhower has a small team, they are very impressive. However, this cross-country season is almost over, with very few races left and a chance at state for many, but the state race might be the last race for a few of the runners. Eisenhower's Cross Country team only has three seniors this year: Boden Alderson, Keagan Garcia, and Sam Roy. These three young men are very talented runners and have been running for a long time. I wonder how they feel about leaving their team and if they are going to continue running. Many athletes stop their sports after high school to focus on college or anything else they want to pursue, but who knows what it might be? Even without running, these boys have a bright future ahead of them. Let's ask them about how they feel about graduating, leaving the team, the season being over, and if they want to continue running.

Sam Roy: “I'm sad to leave the team but happy for a new chapter in my life to begin. I'm sad that I won't be able to run with this amazing team again, and yes, I am looking at running in college.”

Boden Alderson: “Honestly, excited; I've been wanting to get out of high school for a long time now. I will be a little sad that the season will be over, but I enjoyed the experience, and I am looking forward to future ones. I definitely want to continue running. I’m planning on trying to run in college after high school.”

Keagan Garcia: “I'm pretty scared about graduating. Time passed so quickly since sophomore year, but I’m happy with where I'm at and excited to see what comes next. It's very underwhelming that the season is coming to an end. I was hoping to accomplish more this year, but I can’t change that now. I tried my best and will keep pushing myself until it's officially over. I definitely plan on doing recreational running after high school. As for running in college, I'm really not sure. I kind of want to, and I could probably run at a smaller school, if anything, and work my way up.”

It seems that these young men are very excited and upset to be graduating and leaving their team, but these young men know what they want to be doing, and we are sure they will go far with or without running. Through the years, they've improved a lot. It was amazing to see them dominate every course and race they went on and raced in. Since the Eisenhower cross country team won the league title and districts, these boys’ season isn't over yet. We’ll get to see them at state and, with a slight chance, even regionals.
