Is This Their Year?
The 2023 girls soccer team has been working hard to clinch their spot in the top two spots to go to state. Though their efforts haven't been unseen after they beat Wenachtee this year 4-3, a team they haven't beaten in a decade. With a record of 6-4 as of October 21st. This team is making us question- Is this their year?
If these lady cadets were to make it beyond their post-season, it would be the first year in 24 years since they’ve made it to state. The last year they went was in 1999. The team is currently marked 3rd in districts, Tied with Moses Lake, with Wenatchee and Eastmont trailing in the top two spots. This IKE team made a historic run in the previous weeks by winning five games from September 23 to October 7. They’ve beaten every team at least once (except Eastmont).
Notable players this year have been Isabella Diehm, Vianey Esquivel, and Esperanza Haro for goals scored. Vanessa Tellez for saves.
Senior Captain Alyssa Lee tells us about the season, “ I believe we’ll make it far, and everyone will play to their full potential and with all their heart.”
Senior Captain Sierra Downes thought of this season, “We have a winning record, which hasn’t happened in a long time. And every match we’ve played this season, we have won or been competitive against. We are working hard to host one or many playoff games and hopefully end the season strong.”
With only one game left until the postseason, it’s hard to tell what’s in it for this year's girls soccer team. All we know is that this year's team has the strength and determination to go all the way. So the question: Is this their year?.. Well, that’s for the players to decide, not us.
