Ike Beats Davis and West Valley
Ike and Davis have just played their rivalry football game. Your Eisenhower Cadets won the game 20-11 for their first win of the season.
Before the game even started. Coach Gary Jimenez gave us a passionate speech at the pep assembly that got everyone hyped up. This helped a lot of students to come out for the student section at the game.
Then before the game, Eisenhower players came out of the tunnel and they looked very hyped up. You could tell that the night would be very special.
The first half was really not that eventful. In fact the only score that happened was a Davis field goal. It was really a defensive slugfest. It felt like it flew by. Ike’s defense also looked really good. They were making stops unlike you had seen from them in the past few games. It felt like it would come down to the wire. Then we got to halftime and it’s like if they can put their offense together we will have a chance in this game.
The second half then started and then the Ike offense came to life. Senior quarterback Judah Oldenkamp got the Ike scoring started with a 27 yard touchdown pass to Aaron Culler on a crucial 4th down in the third quarter to make it 7-3 Ike ahead. This was Ike’s first touchdown in three games. Then, later in the third quarter, Junior running back Grayson Sartain got a 3 yard rushing touchdown to give Ike a 14-3 lead to close out the third quarter. This is when you really felt like Ike seriously had a chance to win the game and knock Davis out.
But as the 4th quarter began, Davis had different plans. They managed to stop Ike and force a 3 and out and then a bad punt gave Davis a short field to work with and work with it they did. Davis was able to score a touchdown and get the two point conversion to cut to an Ike lead of 14-11. Davis was able to stop an Ike promising drive on 4th down and get the ball with a chance to win it, but Ike stiffened up and forced a turnover on downs 4 plays later. Ike managed to make a clock draining drive that ended with a Judah Oldenkamp 3 yard rushing touchdown with one second to make the final score 20-11 Ike.
As the Eisenhower Band took the field to play their show, there was celebration in Ike’s student section as they won their first game of the season against their crosstown rivalry.
Ike then went on to beat West Valley 6-0 in another defensive slugfest. The game went into 2 overtimes. Only a touchdown from Senior Demitirius Corbey was enough for a win. It was Ike’s first win against West Valley since 2016. This meant Ike had locked up the city championship, going 2-0 in rivalry games.
