Welcome to Cross Country

Fall has started, and so have its sports. Everyone is so excited for football, volleyball, soccer, slow pitch, and swimming, but, oh wait, that's not it. There is one more sport that very few people pay attention to. Cross Country isn't as well known as the other sports that are played during fall, and many tend to hate the sport, but why? Well, many only see the sport for running and automatically hate it, but they don’t decide to look deeper into the sport, the team, or the experience. Eisenhower has a very successful cross country team, sending multiple athletes to State every year.

Eisenhower's cross country team has well-known, respected, hard-headed, and dedicated coaches who put so much time and effort into their athletes. They see potential in all their athletes, but the athletes also need to see the potential in themselves. If the athletes don't see the potential in themselves, then the coaches can’t either. The coaches push their athletes to their best, but if the athletes don't try to do their best, then how can the athletes improve and become their best?

Cross Country is mainly about running, but not everyone starts as a good runner; everyone needs to improve. Those who are dedicated enough to continue are the ones who can see that Cross Country is more than just running.

Cross Country is also a mental sport, which is why people with better mindsets are better runners. These athletes have to tell themselves that they can do it, they can finish the race, and that they can run for this long. Cross Country also helps improve the mindset; with all these positive thoughts, you are sure to gain more confidence.

The cross country team travels more than any other team during the fall season. They visit many different courses, many big and beautiful. These trips are mainly why the cross country team isn't seen as much as the other teams. For the little races that the team has here at home, many still don’t come to support, mainly because many don't know the race is going on. Unlike the other sports, cross country races aren't announced to the school like the other sports, leaving the team with less recognition and less support.

The cross country team itself is full of welcoming and encouraging athletes who help those who are new to the sport. The coaches also help encourage those who are new but still push them to help them get better. The boys are super close with each other and so are the girls. Everyone is so close to each other, making the team seem like one big family. Since the team is so close, when it's time for meets, all the support from the team is so amazing to see, and they make the time go by so fast during the meets.

Cross Country can be hard, but it's worth it in the end. With all the encouragement from the team and coaches, All the fun trips and races, the friends you make along the way, the mindset you develop, and getting to improve your athletic ability, Cross country is sure to give you a great experience. The cross country team is always ready to welcome more, so why don't you give cross country a shot? Who knows, you might like it. It's never too late to start, and it doesn't hurt to try.
