Eisenhower’s Girls Soccer

Girls Soccer has started off the season pretty good, being number 4 in the district. They are 4-4 so far, against teams such as Davis, Eastmont, Wenatchee, and Sunnyside, and are on a current win streak of 3. I wanted to get a closer look at the team, so I went around and interviewed a couple of the players.

When asked about her team, Yarelin Saucedo (Left Back) talked about the strong bond that her and her teammates have. “I love my teammates…We’ve been getting better these past few games.” Yare has been playing for 10 years. “Yeah, I grew up around soccer.” She has also played almost every position on the field.

Sierra Downes (Holding Midfielder) is another key player on the field. She has been playing competitive soccer since she was 5. Her teammates describe her as “Very smart. She is always making good decisions.” Sierra was selected player of the game against Davis on October 1st.

Bella Diehm (Wing/Attacking Midfielder/Forward) has been playing soccer since she was 5 years old. With 2 goals and 5 assists, she was selected as player of the game against Sunnyside on September 24th. Her teammates call her a leader, and smart on the field. “She’s invested in the game.” says teammate Yarelin Saucedo.

Vanessa Tellez (Goalie) is one of the most important players out on the field. She has had many saves this season, 8 of them against Eastmont in a single game. She also had 6 saves against both West Valley and Wenatchee. Her teammates say that “she holds a lot of responsibility, and she’s a very, very hard worker.”

Some of the teams’ favorite moments this year were beating Eastmont and Moses Lake for the first time in a decade. Another memory was their team dinner in the commons earlier this month. The team has been able to get closer throughout the season, leading to their amazing win streak. This season, the girls hope to get through Districts and advance on to State. They believe they are able to do it if they all work hard and stay on track for the rest of the season. Head out and support their remaining game against Wenatchee on the 27th, as well as Districts that start in November!
