Eisenhower Cross is on to State!

Eisenhower's cross-country team is expected to qualify for state this year once again. Are we surprised? No, no, we’re not. Eisenhower’s cross country team sends multiple athletes to state every year, and this year is no different. These runners show you that they are meant to be at state, that they earned and deserved their spot at state. Eisenhower's team is full of incredible runners who work very hard every day of the week and show off all that work during their races. Most of Eisenhower’s team consists of juniors and sophomores, with very few seniors, meaning they have a pretty bright future ahead of them even after their seniors leave.

After their first league meet, Eisenhower showed just how talented their runners are by winning the meet by a whole 7 points, defeating incredibly good schools like Moses Lake and West Valley. Even for a very small team, Eisenhower can do really well with how talented their runners are. Other teams entered about 10-15 boys in the Boys Varsity race, while Eisenhower only entered seven boys. Even with just seven runners, these boys ran their race like nothing and still won, not to mention the fact that their best runners, Kian Compton and Boden Alderson, didn’t even run the varsity race that day, which also shows how incredible these boys are.

For the girls, Eisenhower’s Girls team is very small, with a bunch of underclassmen and only two juniors. A lot of the girls are new to the sport, which is great for them to be trying it out, but because of how small and new the team is, Eisenhower is expected to send only two girls to state, Zophie Hopkins and Caris Cuevas. These girls are insanely talented runners who also show you that they are meant to go to state. These girls have been running their whole lives, and you can just tell they are meant to run from the second you see them run since the first step. These two talented girls are returning state athletes in their 2nd year for both of them. These girls put in so much work and give it their all every day, and it’s such glory to see these two girls run and represent Eisenhower. The rest of the girls put in a lot of hard work to get better, and though they are slowly improving, they are getting better. We hope to see them in the state one day, too.

The coaches put in so much work and time for their athletes, helping them improve quickly and strong, even giving up time from their summer to help condition their runners to be even more ready for the actual season. Cross-country workouts are long and tough, which allows these athletes to improve quickly. They have to learn to fight through pain while staying positive. The coaches make sure to take care of their athletes when needed, and they do everything they can to keep their athletes healthy and strong. Mister and Coach Price are very excited to see their athletes go to state after a long hard working season.

A lot of the boys are returning state athletes, and as mentioned, so are Zophie and Caris. Even though Eisenhower's team is small, they have the same talent as one of the big teams. These runners are dedicated to what they are doing and know not to give up. Their final race before state is on Halloween night, October 31st, at Franklin Park; they will be competing against our league, which is against Moses Lake, Wenatchee, West Valley, Sunnyside, Eastmont, and Davis. Come support your school's cross country team in your costumes or not, but still come support your cross country team. Eisenhower's Cross Country team is one of the best athletic teams in the school, and they just showed how.
