Cosmic Coffee Delights

If you look around IKE, you’ll see a new change to the commons. Person after person line up to go get a taste of the new Satellite Cafe. Bringing interstellar drinks during breakfast and lunchtime to students like you. My friend and I decided to try a few drinks to see which ones were really a bang for your buck. Are they really ‘out of this world’? Or are they just a space-themed failure?

English Toffee Mocha:

This drink (made with chocolate sauce, English toffee syrup, a few shots of espresso, and a chocolate drizzle) was way too bitter for me. I took one, maybe two sips, and I couldn’t handle anymore. I almost choked! Maybe this is just my opinion of hating certain types of coffee, but I feel like the chocolate did very little to balance the drink out. Overall, I think it’s an okay drink; it’s certainly not my cup of tea, though. It’s definitely an acquired taste and a bit of an energy boost for those early hours of the morning. Thanks, but no thanks.

Brown Sugar Cinnamon Caramel Latte:

For all you latte lovers with a-not-so sweet tooth, this drink is made for you! It contains milk, a few shots of espresso, chocolate sauce, brown sugar cinnamon syrup, and it is topped with caramel drizzle and cinnamon. This latte is somewhat bland for my taste, it’s not extremely sweet and reminds me of gingerbread Chai. This matter that is liquid was below my expectations, but also tasted better than the English Toffee Mocha by twenty million taste points.

Pink Starburst:

Surprisingly, it’s not pink and more of an orange color despite what the name suggests. This drink includes a red bull or pink lotus with watermelon and french-vanilla syrup. The Pink Starburst was one of the better tasting drinks on this list. I would put it the #1 spot, it deserves the right to brag about its candy superiority. There’s honestly not much to say about it, except the fact that it’s awesome!

Blue Lagoon Lotus:

Blue Lagoon Lotus, which has purple lotus (a healthier Red Bull, basically), blue raspberry syrup, pomegranate syrup, and lemonade. It is currently not on the menu, but that doesn’t mean you can’t order it for yourself! You just need to specify the ingredients (listed above). I’m pretty sure they made the recipe up the night before, but I won’t lie, it was really, really good. I’m not sure why, but this almost tasted like soap and a 7/11 slushie mixed together… in a good way. How is this possible? No clue. That being said, it was something I guzzled in a matter of minutes.

Mangonada:

This was amazing. I’m fully biased, and I take full responsibility for that… but their Red Bull and Lotus drinks are way better than coffee!! This drink, made of your choice of either Red Bull or Lotus, and strawberry and mango syrup topped with fresh strawberries, leaves me wanting more of it. The strawberries are so perfect that it almost reminded me of strawberry lemonade in a way. Who knew mangoes and strawberries could be so good? This was genuinely the first drink I bought from them and let me tell you, my jaw dropped when I took that first sip.
