Spirit Week!

Once again, it looks like we're beginning another amazing school season! Like they say, new school year, new…theme?

If you aren't familiar with Spirit Week, whether you're a freshman or your first year here at IKE, we'll fill you in on the basics of what you need to know!

Starting off, Spirit Week doesn't come up very often as it's usually followed by an important date. Whether it's a school dance, a game, or a festivity that's coming up, there's always new themes to participate in daily!      All the grades, as well as the teachers, are encouraged to join in and participate. Where's the fun in Spirit Week if you don't dress up with your friends??

One of the really cool parts about this school tradition is the class competitions. During school spirit week, the ASB students are tasked with counting how many people from each grade dressed up. By the end of the week, ASB adds up all the tallies, and the class (grade) with the most spirit wins! They don't happen as often, but they can get really competitive when they do.

The cooler spirit weeks happen around the holidays. For example, the winter-timed spirit weeks are more Christmas-themed than regular spirit weeks. The same is true for the Halloween version; many holiday spirit weeks can include activities as well.

Our first event was this year was the first football game of the season. Going from the 9th of September to the 13th for Round-Up. The themes for the week were Blackout, Shades Out, athlete vs. Nerd, Barbecue Dad vs. Soccer Mom, ‘Merica Day, and spirit gear meets western. It was very fun to see how everyone made the themes their own to express themselves. On America day we even had our very own George Washington, or how Mr. Suhm would say “Georgina Washington”. I think Georgina Washington took the cake for best spirit week costume!

Remember, If you plan on dressing up on theme, don't be afraid to go all out! Some themes are very specific that you just gotta get down to the very last detail. So don't be afraid to show some school spirit! GO IKE!
