Finding Community at Eisenhower High School

Eisenhower High School has a great sense of community if you’re someone who participates in events, sports, music, games, clubs, and dances. But what if you don’t do any of that and don’t know where to start? If you’re someone who enjoys talking about ANYTHING and is willing to have your writing published for your classmates to see, then you should consider signing up for the Five Star Journal. You could write about your interests, politics, opinions, news𑁋, anything you want that’s approved. You could even post comics, seeing as we haven’t had a comic strip section in a while. You’re also leaving something behind for future students to look at, take inspiration from, or be left to think about your work.

The class is also a great way to make friends. You could have your own friend group and make group chats where you could get writing help or collaborate on articles together. Being friends with the editors also benefits you because, HEAR ME OUT: You get to communicate with your editors freely without worrying about their schedule or how they feel about people bugging them about their editing. Another good thing about this class is that it’s a great way to improve your writing skills, and you get great practice with accepting feedback/criticism if that’s something you’re not used to.

Another thing about this class is that it’s laid back; you don’t have to write during that period, so you can use it to do class work or study. We even have a website so anyone can read or view your work, which is really cool in my personal opinion. Also, Mr. DeWitt is, like, really chill and he’s a great teacher and advisor. The class can be great for getting out of your comfort zone and shelling out. It helps you speak your mind and share your opinion publicly. So, if you need somewhere to find a sense of community, the Five Star Journal is a great place to start!
