Christmas Traditions
Christmas Eve is the day before Christmas, a festival commemorating the birth of Jesus. Gifts are commonly opened on Christmas morning, but in Latin culture, people stay up until midnight to open their presents.
Christmas Eve, a holiday only a few people celebrate, appears in multiple Christmas movies and songs. During this time, much travel occurs as people want to return home to see their families. Even those who can not stay long appreciate family time and social events. It is a time when every lonely person has a chance to spend time with the people they love, even if some only get one day off.
Songs detail the beauty of life and the beautiful lights that get hung up, describing the miracle of life. Many places in the world go all out when it comes to lighting up the city. Places like Germany are lit up as much as possible. Finland is a perfect setting to visit, with its Christmas traditions and snowy landscape. Finland is also known as the home of Santa Claus. In the U.S., the tallest Christmas tree is found in New York, measuring up to 100 feet tall!
