Terraria: Full of Slimes, Yet Still Sublime

Terraria is an open-world sandbox game Developed by Re-Logic and released on May 16, 2011. The game combines many open-world sandbox elements with somewhat of an overarching world story. It has a multitude of bosses to fight, along with hundreds of unique enemies. It has sold more than 44 million copies worldwide, and it is on both Xbox and Playstation as well as mobile, Nintendo Switch and PC. It has gone through a multitude of updates, its most recent one being a significant content update titled 1.4.4 “Labor of Love” in response to the community’s continuous and heartfelt support.

Terraria was supposed to have a sequel, of sorts, called “Terraria Otherworld”, but this was canceled in May of 2018, but the team has since stated that they are working on their next large game and are shifting focus to that rather than Terraria. You are allowed full access to a character creator, being able to change everything from skin color and hairstyle to what difficulty you play on. You can choose the size of your world, its name, what evil biome you want, and even the seed with there being some secret seeds that add some crazy things to your world, such as flipping it upside down, making all the water honey and the ground bee hives, and making the game way harder than usual. There are parts of an overarching story, but for the most part, the bosses just have their own unique piece of lore. The modding community is still very active, and the developers are very supportive of them as a whole.

I began playing Terraria when I was roughly 7 or 8, and I still love the game to this day. I have nearly 2 thousand hours in Terraria, and I’ve enjoyed most of them (except when I keep dying to the same boss over and over again). The game is definitely worth buying; it's 10$ on most platforms, and it will hopefully give you many hours of fun, whether it be by yourself or with some friends. Terraria is one of the best open-world games ever made, at least in my opinion.
