Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ is the Newest Must-Watch Show

Unless you have been living under a rock, then you will know or at least hear about Squid Game. Squid Game is a thriller Korean Drama. Wi Ha-Joon, Lee Jung-Jae, Park Hae-soo, HoYoen Jung, Heo Sung-Tae, Kim Joo-Ryung, Anupam Tripathi, and Lee are among the show’s stars Yoon-mi It is an addicting series about 456 people who are financially in debt. They have to compete to win 45.6 Billion Korean Won or 38.5 Billion American dollars. What do they have to do to win the money? Remember when we were kids playing games, the consequence of losing was dying? Well, take that idea, but make that fictional outcome a reality for adults.

The children’s games leave players crouched down on the ground, licking Dalgona candy or trading marbles. They wear P.E uniforms similarly to Korean uniforms, and they are given numbers instead of names. They are constantly under strict surveillance by armed guards. The main character, Seong Gi-hun, is a middle-aged man. Seong Gi-hun is a gambler that steals money from his mother, recklessly gambling her money on horse races, losing his winnings, and getting beat up by a loan shark. All this happens on his daughter’s 10th birthday, no less, resulting in a disappointing dinner of tteokbokki (spicy fish and rice cake) and a gun-shaped lighter when all she wanted was fried chicken for her birthday.

At the end of this day, Gi-hun meets a mysterious recruiter (played by none other than the Goblin himself, Gong Yoo). Gi-hun thinks the recruiter is a scam at first, but no, the recruiter is just a handsome man offering cash to those who beat him in a round of Ddakji. The man hands Gi-hun a business card with three shapes on it. A triangle, square, and a circle. Gi-hun agrees to play a game with the man. Gi-hun later calls them, and they agree to meet in a public place. A van arrives at the scene, and Gi-hun gets inside the van, knocked out by gas, and wakes up in a room with more than 400 people. A voice from a loudspeaker states they will have to compete to earn 45.6 billion Korean won.
