Fionna And Cake’ Brings Back Adventure Time Fans

Adventure Time was one of Cartoon Network’s best-running shows, going on air from 2010-2018. It had a loveable and fun art style, hilarious characters, and even serious undertones! The show was initially meant for a younger (with a TV-PG rating) audience but had its occasional dirty joke.  So many fans were distraught to find the show ending on September 8th, 2018, with the final episode titled ‘Come Along With Me.’ Of course, fans still had the Adventure Time comics (which aren’t considered canon to the show’s timeline), and then the release of Distant Lands on MAX in 2020! On August 31st, 2023, fans finally got an official continuation of the series after Distant Lands: Fionna and Cake, which takes 12 years after the final events of the original series.

Fionna and Cake are the ‘gender-swapped’ versions of the show’s main characters, Finn and Jake (the only twist is that Jake is a dog, and Cake is a cat). The show is mainly about those two trying to get magic back into their world with the help of Simon Petrikov (formally the Ice King in the Adventure Time series). The show even shows more maturity (with a new TV-14 rating), showing blood and the occasional swear. It deals with a few more in-depth aspects of the show, as Fionna, Cake, and Simon travel through the multiverse whilst being hunted by the Scarab.

The show has two episodes every Thursday, ever since August 31st, and has ten episodes in total. It brings back the ever-so-beloved art style that Adventure Time held, as well as showing some old recurring characters throughout the episodes! Fans get to see a grown-up Finn, the relationship between Princess Bubblegum and Marceline, The Vampire Queen, and more! There’s already so much going on in the show, and it is a must-see for Adventure Time fans who have grown up with it. It’s like the show even grew up with them, and it’s not yet time to say goodbye to these beloved characters who deserve their happy ending.
