Mario Movie Predictions

On October 6, 2022, there was a Nintendo Direct showcasing the first trailer for the Mario Movie. As of right now, here are the roles for each character; Mario (Chris Pratt), Luigi (Charlie Day), Bowser (Jack Black), Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Toad (Keegan-Michael Key), Donkey Kong (Seth Rogan), Kamek (Kevin Michael Richardson), Cranky Kong (Fred Armison) and Foreman Spike (Sebatian Maniscalco). There will also be a guest appearance of the original voice actor for Mario and Luigi, Charles Martinet. 

     We don’t know what the movie will mainly be about, but we can speculate. The trailer shows us that Chris Pratt's voice doesn't sound like Mario in the games, so they would probably go with an origin story for the main plumbers or, should I say, carpenters. I say this because of Foreman Spike is one of the characters featured in the Movie. This could be considered minor spoilers for a couple of games that are 40 years old, but Mario was a carpenter in the old-school Nintendo game “Wrecking Crew”, where Foreman Spike was the brothers' boss. Foreman Spike was also a jerk to the brothers.

     So, what could happen is a time-lapse where Mario and Luigi would work with Spike, but then Cranky Kong would appear and kidnaps Spike in some sort. Although not really source material, this could reference the “Donkey Kong” arcade game where Donkey Kong kidnaps Pauline, which was the main plot in the game. So this could be something similar, but it would be a younger version of Cranky Kong and the Brothers (Mario and Luigi). But, it is also not a far stretch, since in the Donkey Kong Country games it depicts Crankey Kong to be that particular “Donkey Kong” from the arcade games. 

     Although that may seem pretty wacky evidence that the movie might be an origin story, I think it lines up altogether, and that is what I’m predicting because I don’t know how the full story will play out.
