Catching Up with Cross Country

     The cross country season is off and running. It is one of Ike’s most successful programs overall. They are constantly going to state year in and year out. I had the privilege of catching up with a couple of these runners, Jason Taylor and Stephan Delaney. So, let's let them take it away. 

What made you join cross country? “I originally joined cross country because I wanted to stay in shape during high school, and have stayed in it for the competition.”-Jason. 

“I was in cross country last year, and the experience of it is awesome in this program.”-Stephan. 

How has the vibe been around the team? Jason said, “The vibe from this team is great; everyone gets along well, and we all have a lot of fun while improving ourselves.” 

Stephan said, “I don't know much about how the girls' team is doing but the boys team is a close group who all get along well and we all try to help each other be better.” 

What has made this program successful? According to Stephan, “I think that this program is successful because we have incredibly smart coaches and kids that are able to listen to them when they have to.” According to Jason, “I believe that this program is successful because of our amazing coaches who donate their time to see that the team is always on top.” 

What is the team’s greatest strength?. Per Jason, “I think that our team’s greatest strength is our bond, because we are all committed to improving to hopefully go to state.” Per Stephan, “ How deep we are. Meaning we are all close on our times and will probably be racing closer together than last year.” 

Why should people go out and support cross country? Stephan said, “Because cross country is one of the best sports at Eisenhower and it's pretty entertaining if you get into it.” Jason said, “People should support us because we’re Ike, and all the players who represent Ike across all sports deserve support from their peers.” 

     So you heard it from our Cross Country runners. They need your support.  There is a great opportunity coming up for this. Saturday, September 30th, is the Sunfair Invitational. The Girls are running at 10:00, and the boys are running at 3:30. So get out there and support your Eisenhower Cross Country Team of 2023.
