The Follies and All That Jazz
The Ike Follies kicked off this year stronger than ever on November 22nd. With new lights for the stage, and a crew ready for the night ahead, the Follies began with a blast from Ikes very own ‘El Ritmo de la Tierra’. Some other Ike productions within Follies include Ike Cologuard, Drumline, and Dance Team..
Grupo Altedero performed a myriad of songs in Espanol, one of which was an original. The rhythmic guitar and bouncing bass entrapped the audience so indescribable that no words I could use could give them any form of justice.
One of the other highlights of the night for me was Quincy Amaya’s performance of ‘End of The World’. Their voice soared, capturing the audience with power. It shouldn’t be forgotten that Laurel Kaschmitter, the choir teacher at Ike, accompanied Quincy, so the music danced and felt visual as it went on. Quincy’s voice made you feel the emotion of the song and the lyrics, taking you outside of yourself and into the life of another.
Another highlight was Sarah Lara’s rendition of ‘All That Jazz’. Sarah was a full solo act, dancing, singing, and stealing the night away. Her voice had an energy to it that was unmatchable, seconded only by the energy in her choreography. This was truly a spectacular performance.
This was an incredible night, full of everything you’d ever want. I only mentioned three acts, but there were many, many more, and they were all spectacular. The ‘All That Jazz’ Ike Follies was absolutely perfect, you just had to be there. One last thing to mention, we should all thank Asiah Shaffer for the wonderful light design for all of the acts. We are really lucky as a school to have a student doing that, and we couldn’t have had anybody better. Catch the next follies, please, they are always an amazing delight.
