Sega Brings Sonic Back!

Before I say anything, this is my opinion, and you should play Sonic Frontiers before you make your own critique. Sonic the Hedgehog, the blue blur, rivaling Mr. Video Game himself. You might have heard of him at some point in your life, whether in the 90s for the teachers, or the 2000s for the rest of us. However, Sonic wasn't the greatest within the last few years, where Sonic was viewed as a joke to some people on how terrible his games were or how the people and the community wanted the old-school Sonic back.

Sonic only had one successful game back then, Mania, but even then, it was a one-off experience and promoted Sonic Forces. (The latest sonic game at the time.) Sonic Forces ended up as a sloppy mess, and the fans didn’t like it. So Sega and the Sonic team had time to reflect on the game and focus on what the people complained about and would’ve fixed by having comics from the IDW series and two entire movies about him.

But what about the games? They made Sonic Frontiers. So let’s talk about the negatives since this game is not perfect. The game is fairly easy. In this game, you get a skill tree to gain new moves. Although a good concept, this made the game really easy due to this game being an open-world/open-zone type of game. Another complaint might be obvious to those who have played the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, but it has a confusing start. What I mean is that at the beginning of the game, it doesn't give you context on where you should go, so you would most likely be confused as to where to go to complete the game.

Finally, another complaint is that the story is really weird. (SPOILERS AHEAD) At the beginning of Sonic Frontiers, we see Dr. Robotnic but a strange device in the Starfall islands for some strange reason, but it brought all the chaos emeralds to him and made an AI that controls some sort of strange anomaly, which brings attention to Sonic. So he and his pals (Amy and Tails) go to Starfall Island to see what is up, but something happens, and they split apart. Sonic goes to a green hill, or that is what it seems.

He manages to come back to Starfall island. This is where he realizes not everything is not what it seems. I’ll stop right there. It may not be a ten out of ten game, but it is an improvement over any other Sonic game. Also, the music is quite good.
