Wolverine: A Role Reprised by Jackman
Live-action versions of comics have always been a hit or a miss since they first started coming out. However, in the early 2000s, things changed when The Wolverine was added to the mix of characters who had a live-action counterpart. It’s never easy to find someone looking like the 5 '3 Canadian with a metal skeleton, but one man managed to do it. Hugh Jackman. Ever since then, Jackman has been playing Wolverine in almost every iteration of the character that he possibly can. Other than younger versions of the character, Jackman has been THE Wolverine for over 24 years.
In 2017, the movie “Logan” came out, pushing the live-action character of Logan to a close. It was officially the last time Jackman would ever play the character as he even died in the film. (Sorry to those who haven’t seen it, it came out 7 years ago, so spoilers are practically unavoidable, especially now.) It was finally time for Wolverine to die and be laid to rest once and for all. More films came out, with the eventual release of “Deadpool” in 2018. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman had played their characters Deadpool and Wolverine together in a film before, back in 2009 for “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” It was no small fact that the two were friends, and have been friends ever since.
But, recently, Wolverine has come back. And before the movie even began, Jackman was already working on bulking up for the film. It’s no secret that every few years Hugh Jackman has to get bulked up and swole for the role of Wolverine, but it’s also no secret that he loves doing it. He’s clearly in good shape, and most were shocked to see his six-pack on the big screen at the climax of the film. I’d say I was too. Even when watching the behind-the-scenes footage, it’s obvious that Jackman has loved playing the role for the past 24 years. The role was reprised in one of the best ways possible (without spoiling the movie too much) and truly brought back the Wolverine we seemed to know and love. The role is finally coming back after seven years, bringing back our favorite Australian actor who plays a Canadian who sounds more American than ever.
