Loki Season 2 Recap…So Far

Episode 1: Ouroboros

Loki‘s first season ended on a cliffhanger with Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) killing a Kang the Conqueror variant, also known as He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors); Loki found himself in the TVA (Time Variance Authority) he didn’t recognize with versions of his friends who didn’t seem to recognize him. This is addressed in the first episode of season 5, where we realize he is jumping into the past and future of the TVA, which is believed not to be possible with the TVA being outside the secret timeline. The episode opens with Mobius (Owen Wilson) stating he doesn’t know Loki and chasing them with several guards in slow motion. Before Loki figures out he is jumping through time, he is suddenly pulled in several directions simultaneously and transported to the same room, but this time with Casey, he does know. Then, he is able to understand he is being pulled through time inside the sacred TVA. In the War Room, Judge Gamble (Liz Carr) and high-ranking Hunter Dox (Kate Dickie) question Mobius and B-15. They’re outraged that the branches of the timeline have gone past “red line” and ask why they paused “pruning” the timeline branches. B-15 attempts to explain what pruning really is: mass genocide.  He reappears in the middle of Gamble’s questioning and, realizing he’s been reunited with his Mobius, starts rambling about Kang’s return. When he doesn’t feel heard, Loki snatches X-5’s weapon and uses it to reveal Kang’s face behind the mural. They then go to “OB” (Ke Huy Quan), who may be the only person at the TVA who is the only one who can possibly help. OB informs them that Loki is “time slipping” and that the only way to restore him to his pre-slipped self is by using a temporal aura extractor. Loki eventually is able to save himself, and then he and Morbius go to solve the mystery of where the general and her troops are going.

Episode 2: Breaking Brad

We see Loki and Morbius chase after or follow Hunter X-5, who they find living on the sacred timeline as a movie star. He tries to run, but Loki is able to trap him in a corner using his powers of illusion. Then, the duo, Morbius and Loki, start to interrogate him. We see an unusual thing with Moribus getting mad and slapping X-5. We see how far Loki has come with him and Morbius sitting at a table eating, and he talks about his anger for his father and brother causing the events of New York in 2012. Then he asks Morbius if he wishes he was living his life on the timeline and not here in the TVA, and we see him say he doesn’t know because what if his life was bad, but it would hurt a lot to know his life was good. They go back to interrogate X-5, and he finally takes them to where Sylvie is. We see her on a timeline working at McDonald’s. We see her and Loki talk, and then Morbius notices something is up with X-5; then he tells them the general’s job wasn’t to find Sylvie but to prune all the timelines. They rush back to the TVA, and then they are standing in front of the monitor, watching as all of the branched timelines die. We then see OB and Casey talk about how the TVA will be destroyed if they can’t close the blast doors, which can only be done by the creator, AKA Kang, or at least one of his many variants.

Episode 3: 1893

In this episode, we see Loki and Morbius go on a chase to find the cartoon clock, Miss Minutes, as they try to save the TVA. In this episode, Sylvie and Loki fight, sending off a powerful magical blast that separates them. Victor manages to run off with Ravonna, who is not interested in fixing the TVA either, and they manage to escape both Loki and Mobius and the people chasing down Victor for money. Victor  Publicly, an inventor, minor industrial titan, and founder and mayor of the town of Timely, Wisconsin, Victor Timely was just Kang in disguise. Victor didn't like working with anyone else. This led to Victor putting Ravonna in a lifeboat and sending her out to drift alone. We see that Miss Minutes isn't interested in saving the TVA. Again, Victor doesn’t know how much information Miss Minutes has, but he's made a powerful enemy out of her. After everyone arrives we see Sylvie arrive next, sending out a magical blast that knocks everyone out. This allows her to get the upper hand on Victor. But despite her promise to kill all variants of Kang, she can't do it here, relinquishing Victor to Loki and Mobius. Then, as a final act, Sylvie creates a time door with He Who Remains' tempad and kicks Ravonna through to the End of Time. With Miss Minutes by her side, Ravonna learns that there is a huge secret that Kang has been keeping about her.
